Manager: Víctor Fernández
The end of an era. The 2004–05 season brought the first tangible evidence that the Super Dépor project was unwinding. Key players were departing or ageing, the financial model that had sustained a decade of excellence was under strain, and the gap between Deportivo and La Liga’s financial elite was widening.
A 7th-place finish was respectable on paper, but the quality and depth that had characterised the 1999–2004 peak was clearly diminishing. Juan Carlos Valerón remained a class act, but around him the squad lacked the collective dynamism and depth that had made Deportivo so formidable for a decade. The transition out of the Super Dépor era had begun.
